Lantus

I forgot to give Olivia her Lantus last night, yes this is a big crucial mistake that I as her parent should of never made!! I didn't even realize it until this morning, I feel so bad, so ashamed, so defeated. I don't know how I made this mistake, it's one that I've never made before. I can't fix what I've done, she is just going to run high all day today, probably spill ketones and need a few extra shots. WOW, I screwed up!! It's one thing to make mistakes when it comes to your children we've all done it, but when it comes to your sick child it is just unacceptable. I think of all the things that could of happened to her through out the night with no insulin in her little body. I could of tried to wake her in the morning to find her in a coma, find her seriously ill, and my mind cannot go any farther than that. One mistake like this could honestly turn out bad. I know I'm human and humans make mistakes, but you can't make mistakes at the price of your child. UGH, I can't believe I did this. She is just fine though, she's going to be okay, I got lucky. Thank you GOD!!

Other than this mistake her sugars have been really good. We're planning on starting on the pump in the spring, I'm praying this makes her life a little easier!! I have found out though that there is no insurance in this state to help kids with terminal illnesses, so we will be shelling out several thousands of dollars for the pump. That's okay though, there is no price tag you can put on the health and happiness of your child. She lives a better life here, so it's still defiantly worth it!! I think we've decided to go with the Omnipod, I believe this will end up costing us close to $5,000 a year. Then on top of that we will have test strips and insulin to pay for, let alone any hospital stays. Children's with Special Needs Insurance O how I miss you!! It's not cheap to have a sick child, and no matter how much I dislike Obama I'm curious if sick kids will get some aid...probably not! I am happy that insurance companies will no longer be able to deny someone with a pre-existing condition, now if we had to buy insurance we actually could. She has a chance of being insured as a adult too, so that is a good thing for her. I also love that she could stay under our insurance until she is 26. Anyways I'm going all over the place here. I love this blog it does me wonders to get some of this off my chest!!
